Restaurant Style Mongolian Beef Recipe

Ingredients:
- INGREDIENTS FOR MARINATING THE BEEF:
- Beef (undercut only) - 1/2 kg Julienne cut (1/4-inch thick slices)
- Cornstarch (Corn flour) - 2 tablespoons
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Black Pepper Powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Soy Sauce - 1 tablespoon
- Oil - 2 teaspoons
- INGREDIENTS FOR MAKING THE SAUCE:
- Dried Red Chilies OR Red Button Chilies - 3-4
- Oil - 2 tablespoons
- Dark Soya Sauce - 2 tablespoons
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Ginger - 1 tablespoon, minced
- Hoisin Sauce - (Homemade or store-bought) 2-3 tbsp
- Brown Sugar - 2 teaspoons
- Salt - 1 teaspoon or to taste, (keep in mind sauces have already salt content in them and marinated beef also has some salt, so adjust accordingly)
- Black Pepper Powder - 1/4 teaspoons or to taste
- Chicken broth(stock) - OR Water, 1/4 cup
- Spring Onion - 04, sliced into quarters, plus 1 chopped green onion for garnish
- Cornstarch Slurry: - 2 tablespoons cornstarch mixed with ¼ Cup water
- Sesame oil - 2 teaspoons
- Sesame Seeds - Toasted, for Garnishing
Cooking Method:
Step#1: Marinating the Beef
In a large bowl, toss beef slices with 2 teaspoons of oil, 1 tablespoon of soy sauce, and 2 tablespoons of the cornstarch until fully coated. Marinate for 30 minutes.
Step#2: Making the Sauce
In a small saucepan over medium flame, heat 1 tablespoon of oil. Add chopped garlic and ginger, dried chilies and spring onion (white part only) and cook until fragrant for 2 minutes.
Add Soy sauce, homemade Hoisin Sauce, chicken stock (or water) and lastly brown sugar and stir until dissolved. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer on low heat.
Step#3: Stir Fry the Marinated Beef
Meanwhile, in a large skillet over medium flame, heat remaining oil and stir fry the marinated beef and sear until crispy, 3 to 4 minutes per side. Drain excess oil. Set aside.
Step#4: Make Ready!
Now add the cornstarch slurry into the sauce to make it thick and glossy and keep mixing with a spoon till desired consistency. (until the sauce coats the back of a spoon.)
Now add the cooked beef slices and toss in the sauce until all the beef is well-coated. Cook for another 10-20 seconds. All of the sauce should be clinging to the beef. If you find the sauce is a little thick, add more broth or water, 1 tablespoon at a time, to adjust the consistency of the sauce as per your desire.
Add sesame oil 2 teaspoons and green onions sliced into quarters and toss until combined, then simmer a few more minute.Garnish with a few chopped green onions and toasted sesame seeds.
